Pollitt papers portray a young man’s experience of the phases of war training, stationing, and naval service of World War II, and the written relationship men maintained with their families. Specifically, correspondence between Pollitt and his mother Agnes Malone Pollitt during his service in the United States Marine Corps from 1943-1946. The letters document his experiences at boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina and his subsequent postings in Washington, D.C. and North Carolina.

The World War II Veterans project records document orally and written the histories of Wicomico County, Maryland men and women who served in the differing branches of the military during World War II. Written and audio evidence documents the veteran’s enlistment, rank, military unit, and where they were stationed for the duration of the war. Records were collected by Sylvia Bradley and the Westside Historical Society in 1995 with subsequent records periodically added in 1996.
